Taiwan's Minister of Labour, Hong Sun-han, travelled to China on Sunday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation APEC forum, marking the first such visit by a minister under the current Taiwanese administration.
APEC is one of the few international organizations of which Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, is a member. China is hosting this year's APEC meetings, and the group's leaders' summit will be held in Shenzhen in November.
China has repeatedly rejected offers of dialogue from Taiwan's current president, Lai Ching-te, labeling him a “separatist,“ and its military conducts operations around Taiwan almost daily. Lai maintains that only the Taiwanese people should decide the island's future.
Taiwan's Ministry of Labour confirmed that Minister Hong traveled to China to attend the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Human Resources in Nanjing, eastern China.
Hong was a former legislator for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party under Lai and is known for his outspoken advocacy on issues such as human rights in Hong Kong and Tibet.
Taiwan participates in APEC under the name “Chinese Taipei,“ a name it also uses for the Olympic Games. Beijing, however, generally uses the term “Chinese Taipei,“ despite objections from the Taiwanese government.
Taiwanese officials, below the ministerial level, have previously attended other APEC events held in China; China views Taiwan as a province, not an independent country.
The President of Taiwan does not attend the leaders' summit to avoid political issues; instead, he appoints former officials or business leaders to represent him, such as Morris Chang, the founder of chip giant TSMC.
Taiwan has not yet announced who will represent it at the Shenzhen summit.

Internal Security Forces ISF arrested Brigadier General Zakaria Muhammed Sanoun in a security operation following the monitoring of his activities due to his military role during the former regime. Sanoun served as the head of the Operations Branch of the 22nd Division from 2012 to 2020, a period during which there was a significant increase in air operations conducted by former regime forces in various parts of Syria. The 22nd Division oversees air operations related to three main military airfields: Hama Military Airfield, T4 Tiyas Airfield, and Shayrat Airfield. As head of the Operations Branch, Sanoun was among those responsible for the management and coordination of operations related to these facilities. According to ISF, he is suspected of being involved in the planning and execution of air operations targeting civilian areas during the years of the Syrian revolution, although his specific responsibilities have not yet been legally determined. Sanoun has been referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation in preparation for the initiation of legal proceedings and the submission of his case to the competent court.

CNN, citing US officials, reported that the United States has refused to launch attacks against Houthi positions and believes Saudi Arabia is receiving all the necessary support from the US. The channel noted that US President Donald Trump has explicitly stated that his “red line“ is direct US intervention against Houthi positions.
The channel quoted a US official as saying, “There will be no attack.“
Another official stated that the US believes Saudi Arabia is currently receiving all the resources it needs to fight the Houthis, pointing to a recent increase in intelligence sharing and target identification information.
These statements align with Houthi threats. Mohammed Muftah, the interim head of the Houthi-linked government in Sana'a, stated that the group will “respond to any force attacking Yemen,“ adopting a “retaliatory“ approach and suggesting that “the Saudi blockade on Yemen could be met with the closure of airports.“
The U.S. State Department issued security alerts urging Americans in the region to exercise increased caution and prepare for potential travel disruptions, warning that military escalation could rapidly develop.
The current escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia has taken on a military dimension, with the Houthis launching intense ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting the capital Riyadh and the area around King Khalid International Airport, as well as attacking vital Aramco facilities in the Yanbu, Jizan, and Najran regions.
In response, the Saudi-led coalition has launched intense airstrikes targeting various fronts within Yemen, while Saudi air defenses have successfully intercepted these attacks and early warning systems have been activated to protect civilian infrastructure.

The Lebanese Army announced it received 70 containers of various types of ammunition at the Port of Beirut as part of a U.S. military aid program. In a press release, the Army Command stated, “This support is particularly important at this stage, given the magnitude of the responsibilities and challenges faced by the military institution. It also contributes to enhancing the capabilities of the army, particularly in terms of missions conducted in various regions of Lebanon.“
This shipment is part of a series of U.S. military aid packages totaling over three billion dollars since 2006.
Over the years, this support has included various equipment and ammunition, including thousands of rifles, bullets, and armored vehicles.
This latest shipment follows a visit to Washington last February by the Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Army, General Rudolph Haykal, where he discussed military cooperation and ways to enhance the army's capabilities in the coming period with U.S. officials.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in a meeting with US President Donald Trump last July, confirmed that the Lebanese army possesses the necessary capabilities to fulfill its assigned tasks and requested additional support from the US as part of efforts to extend state authority throughout Lebanese territory.

The Houthi movement Ansar Allah has threatened to close Saudi airports as part of the escalating conflict between the movement and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mohammed Muftah, the interim head of the Houthi-linked government in Sana'a, indicated that the group would “respond to any force attacking Yemen,“ hinting at escalation measures that could include targeting airport operations.
Muftah stated that the group adheres to the principle of “responding to escalation with escalation,“ adding, “The Saudi blockade on Yemen could be met with the closure of airports.“
Confirming that Ansar Allah has the capacity to retaliate against the targeting of any facility by attacking multiple facilities, Muftah said, “the group aims to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure from the consequences of the conflict.“

However, the nature of the mission and its destination have not been officially announced, and the use of afterburners doesn't necessarily mean the aircraft was carrying munitions, as they are also used in some training and operational takeoff missions.
Aviation sources reported that two such bombers, serial numbers 86-0139 and 86-0140, took off from the British base, which regularly hosts US bombers for training and deployment missions. Neither the Pentagon nor the British Ministry of Defence commented on the mission or destination.
This move coincided with the US issuing security alerts in several Middle Eastern countries, including Lebanon, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan, urging American citizens to be vigilant and monitor security developments. While there is currently no official evidence directly linking the takeoff of bomber aircraft to an imminent military operation in the region, developments on the ground and regional tensions keep speculation alive regarding the possibility of expanding U.S. military activity.

Syria, which has been dependent on imports for years, achieved self-sufficiency for the first time this year and even exported its surplus. The Syrian General Directorate of Supply and Procurement
opened a tender for the sale of 200,000 tons of Syrian durum wheat second and third grade belonging to the Syrian Grain Company. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA, this wheat exceeds the country's milling needs and will be sold to the General Directorate of Supply and Procurement according to the detailed specifications and conditions stated in the tender documents. This step is considered a positive economic indicator upon which Syria can build to restore its food security. Historically, achieving self-sufficiency in wheat has thwarted attempts to politically blackmail Syria by applying economic pressure. During the long years of war, the Syrian state was unable to purchase all the wheat harvest from farmers because the Syrian Democratic Forces SDF disputed this right. The war also prevented the cultivation of all agricultural land in Syria's Jazira region, forcing the state to import its wheat needs at a significant loss of foreign currency; current Syrian authorities are trying to avoid this situation.

According to BFM TV, citing sources, eight police officers were injured in riots in central France. The events began in the town of Saint-Pierre-des-Courts when a police vehicle struck a motorcyclist. The incident occurred when police officers were trying to stop noisy motorcycle riding following complaints from local residents.
According to the same source, police officers were forced to take refuge in a nearby police station due to the motorcyclists' anger, while dozens of people threw fireworks. As a result of the events, two police vehicles and two private vehicles were set on fire.
To restore order, authorities deployed a large security force of around one hundred officers, including members of special police units. Protesters managed to erect barricades and start fires.
Police arrested five people during the operation, and the police officer who struck the motorcyclist was taken into custody.

The Israeli army announced it killed one gunman and arrested another in a vehicular attack on Israeli soldiers stationed in the Ganim area of the Menashe Brigade in the West Bank. The attack came an hour after a settler in his thirties was killed in a shooting near a spring close to the Nof Tzuf outpost, near the Halamish settlement west of Ramallah.
Initial reports indicated that a gunman driving a red Mitsubishi SUV with Palestinian Authority license plates opened fire on Israeli settlers swimming in a nearby spring before getting out of the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
The injured man was airlifted to the Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva and later died from his injuries. The search for the gunman continues.
The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, assessed the situation and ordered the deployment of additional security forces to the area to assist in the search operation.

Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser El-Din and Labor Minister Mohammad Haidar visited and toured the ancient Baalbek Citadel to refute Israeli claims of weapons and military fortifications being found in the archaeological site. Following the visit, Minister Nasser El-Din stated: “Today we came to visit Baalbek Citadel; we came to feel pride and honor in this citadel, like the people of Baalbek, whose towering columns represent every sacrifice, every honor, and every meaning of defending Lebanon with their patriotism and the blood of their sons.“
He continued: “On behalf of the people of Baalbek and as a son of this region, we invite everyone to visit the city and citadel of Baalbek and see the true state of life. Let us stop fabricating lies and stigmatizing the people of Baalbek with baseless accusations. The people of Baalbek are educated and cultured; they have their history, their sacrifices, their martyrs, and their citadel.”
Minister Haidar stated: “We came here in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers to visit the city of Baalbek and its civilian fortress, which is visited by people from all over the world.” He continued: “We reject the claims of the Israeli enemy, who periodically accuses us and alleges that there are weapons, missiles, and military areas in the fortress. As you all know, this is a completely civilian area, and life continues as normal. This is an expression of the spirit and determination of the people of Baalbek.”
Member of Parliament Ali Mikdad welcomed the two ministers and said, “Baalbek Fortress is a civilian archaeological site that does not contain any weapons depot or anything like that, as the enemy claims. This is a well-known fact.” He added, “The enemy media and our Zionist enemy are using every means to undermine the resistance, Lebanon, and especially Baalbek, but they have not succeeded and will not succeed.”

In New South Wales, Australia, three women were killed in separate incidents within 24 hours, suspected of being linked to domestic violence. Investigations are ongoing in all three cases, and murder charges have been brought. The victims, aged 90, 70, and 23, died in incidents in Bondi Beach, Sydney; Mall River, North Tiplands; and Corringall, Wagga Wagga.
In Bondi Beach, police found a 90-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds inside an apartment. She died at the scene. A 47-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder related to domestic violence.
In Corringall, a 23-year-old woman was stabbed to death inside a house. A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with the same crime, while an 18-year-old was acquitted.
In Mall River, police, responding to a domestic violence report, found the body of a woman believed to be 70 years old. A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns described the deaths as “shocking,“ while State Minister Sophie Coates said the deaths of three women in a single day were “an absolute tragedy.“
Data from the New South Wales Crime Statistics and Research Bureau shows that in the 12 months between April 2025 and March 2026, 33 people were killed in domestic violence incidents – 17 adult women and 4 children.
Investigations into three of the cases are ongoing, and charges against the three men have not yet been brought to court.

Syrian Airlines has expanded its direct flight network to Europe with the addition of two new destinations, Copenhagen and Vienna, starting Monday and Tuesday, bringing the total number of European destinations served by the airline to three, including Amsterdam. Omar al-Hosari, Head of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and Air Transport
, stated that flights to Copenhagen will begin on September 21st and flights to Vienna on September 22nd. Al-Hosari stated that work is ongoing to add new European and regional destinations, which will be announced gradually after the necessary conditions for each destination are met.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe on Sunday to discuss a range of regional issues. Egyptian Chief of General Intelligence Hassan Rashad was also present at the meeting. During the meeting, Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's full support for efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement to end the Iranian crisis, stating that this would contribute to restoring security and stability in the region and guaranteeing freedom of international navigation. Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shanavy stated that developments in the Palestinian issue were also discussed during the meeting, and that Sisi emphasized the importance of the full implementation of the second phase of the US President's plan to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Sisi praised the efforts of the mediators to reach a roadmap guaranteeing the implementation of this phase.
Sisi reiterated Egypt's firm stance, emphasizing the need to consolidate the ceasefire, protect civilians, ensure adequate and continuous access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and create the appropriate conditions for restarting the political process for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law and the two-state solution.
The meeting also addressed the Sudanese crisis, with Sisi reaffirming Egypt's unwavering support for Sudan's unity, stability, and the preservation of its legitimate national institutions, emphasizing that Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity are inviolable principles.
Sisi stated that Egypt is actively and constructively involved in various international and regional frameworks regarding the Sudanese crisis, aiming to end the war, alleviate human suffering, and support the political solution process.
The spokesperson added that developments in the Horn of Africa were also discussed, with the Egyptian President confirming his full support for efforts to ensure security and stability in Somalia and categorically rejecting any violation of its sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity.

On Sunday morning, an Israeli force consisting of three Merkava tanks entered the town of Deir Mimas in the Marjeyoun region of southern Lebanon, blocking its entrance and exit. Sources reported that the force searched several houses and destroyed roadside telephone poles before continuing operations in other areas of southern Lebanon.
In the town of Majdal Zoun, the Israeli army carried out a series of explosions and search operations around the town, while also conducting a search operation towards the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya during the night.

The Rapid Support Forces RSF launched a drone attack on El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state in western Sudan, early this morning, accompanied by loud explosions. This valuable and historic popular resistance, which made Iran strong in the 1960s, will today elevate Iran to a new level of influence and prosperity.“
He added, “In the last seven months, we have proven that we have not surrendered to aggression. Our logic in fighting the enemy is to proceed intelligently and impose the will of the Iranian people. Unfortunately, however, there are two strategic mistakes in the country's political elite that oversimplify the truth.“
continued: “Firstly, there is a perspective that speaks of war without any horizon or mechanism to achieve the goal. Rejecting any interaction or diplomacy without considering the possibilities is practically dragging the country into attrition and an unending war. On the other hand, there is a tendency to fall into the error of underestimating national strength; seeing Iran as weak and resorting to spreading fear to distort the image of surrender and acceptance of the enemy's unilateral conditions.“
He added: “The first mistake keeps the country in a constant state of crisis, while the second mistake offers national resources and honor to the enemy, and both approaches fulfill the enemy's desire to undermine the country's integrity and unity.“
Qalibaf emphasized that the dilemma of war or negotiation is unrealistic, rather we must simultaneously fight and negotiate.

The Yemeni Embassy in Cairo announced on Sunday that Brigadier General Mohammed Ali Mehdi Hadi died in a hotel in Aswan, Egypt, and that there is no suspicion of foul play. In a statement, the embassy said, “Based on initial investigations, the embassy wishes to clarify that there is no suspicion of foul play and is awaiting the results of the forensic examination to determine the cause of death.“ The embassy added that a representative is in Aswan to follow the investigation.
The embassy extended its deepest condolences to the deceased's family and loved ones and stated that it is following the matter with all relevant authorities in the host country.
Brigadier General Mohammed Ali Mehdi Hadi Salmeen, known as “Socrates,“ was one of Yemen's most prominent military leaders. He was a leading figure in the “Southern“ faction and most recently served as the commander of the 2nd Support and Reinforcement Brigade.

Salafist groups and accounts affiliated with the extremist religious movement launched a widespread campaign against the Grand Mufti of Syria, Sheikh Osama al-Rifai, following his remarks about the intellectual and spiritual authority of Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara. Accounts and platforms loyal to the Salafist movement focused on sections of al-Rifai's speech where he addressed a crucial period in al-Shara's and his associates' religious and jihadist journey, highlighting the influence of Wahhabism, and particularly the extremism of some of its radical elements, including the practice of takfir exclusion.
These Salafist accounts argued that Sheikh al-Rifai, in defining Salafism and Wahhabism, generalized the entire Salafist movement in an unacceptable manner for someone in the position of Grand Mufti of Syria and head of the Supreme Fatwa Council.
Conversely, some defended his view, arguing that the circulated quotes were taken out of context from a longer speech and framed within a discussion of the intellectual transformations that Syrian Islamist groups and movements have undergone in recent years.
The controversy that erupted following the Mufti's statements highlighted long-standing intellectual and doctrinal differences between two main religious currents within the same Islamic school: Ash'arites and Sufis on one side, and Salafi currents on the other. These differences focused on issues of belief, methodology, and exclusion.
Al-Rifa'i assumed the role of Mufti of Syria and head of the Supreme Fatwa Council, which comprises spiritual figures from various doctrinal orientations.
Despite its hardline past, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, after coming to power in Damascus, did not attempt to significantly alter Syria's doctrinal landscape. Sufi sheikhs maintained their dominance in this area and held important positions, particularly in the Grand Mufti's office of the Republic. Meanwhile, attempts emerged from Wahhabi sheikhs to condemn and alter what they perceived as religious innovations, such as the celebration of the Prophet's birthday and other events valued and respected by Sufis.

The late Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, said the media's handling of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, reflects how the media treated his sister. In a BBC interview scheduled to air Sunday evening, Charles stated that press coverage of Harry and Meghan has a “cancerous effect,“ adding, “It's really a duty for people to learn from Diana's example.“
He continued: “If you look at a tabloid article about Diana or Harry and Meghan, it can be very cruel, and I think it's really a duty for people to learn from Diana's example.“ He added: “I'm not here to speak on behalf of Harry and Meghan, but for everyone who is being subjected to this kind of devastation every day, it must have a cancerous effect on their lives.“
Charles said Diana was “deeply disappointed“ by the criticism she received from the media, adding that it was “sad“ to see “the echoes of this“ in press coverage of Harry and Meghan.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to the UK from the US on August 26. The couple, who have long been critical of the media's treatment of them, made headlines in 2021 when Harry told Oprah Winfrey in an interview that the tabloid press created a “toxic environment.“
These latest comments from Diana's brother come after Buckingham Palace accused the King of “psychological manipulation“ following bombshell allegations that Charles said “we will soon forget her“ after Diana's death. Charles made a number of damaging claims about the King in a new memoir about Diana's life, prompting the Palace to respond by saying “the pain of fraternal grief can cloud the mind.“
