Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the US fulfills its commitments. He continued, “The resistance of the Iranian people will not only guarantee Iran's security but will also pave the way for opening up in economic and strategic areas by creating a new order in the region and the world. This valuable and historic popular resistance, which made Iran strong in the 1960s, will today elevate Iran to a new level of influence and prosperity.“
He added, “In the last seven months, we have proven that we have not surrendered to aggression. Our logic in fighting the enemy is to proceed intelligently and impose the will of the Iranian people. Unfortunately, however, there are two strategic mistakes in the country's political elite that oversimplify the truth.“
continued: “Firstly, there is a perspective that speaks of war without any horizon or mechanism to achieve the goal. Rejecting any interaction or diplomacy without considering the possibilities is practically dragging the country into attrition and an unending war. On the other hand, there is a tendency to fall into the error of underestimating national strength; seeing Iran as weak and resorting to spreading fear to distort the image of surrender and acceptance of the enemy's unilateral conditions.“
He added: “The first mistake keeps the country in a constant state of crisis, while the second mistake offers national resources and honor to the enemy, and both approaches fulfill the enemy's desire to undermine the country's integrity and unity.“
Qalibaf emphasized that the dilemma of war or negotiation is unrealistic, rather we must simultaneously fight and negotiate.
stated: “We must fight intelligently and decisively, and negotiate strongly and rationally at the appropriate time. That is, at the right moment and with all our military might, we must repel the enemy and deliver decisive blows. However, when we achieve a significant military victory and the enemy is weakened, we must consolidate these advantages through diplomatic means, defeating the enemy and strengthening our own power, until we reach the stage of deterrence.”

The Yemeni Embassy in Cairo announced on Sunday that Brigadier General Mohammed Ali Mehdi Hadi died in a hotel in Aswan, Egypt, and that there is no suspicion of foul play. In a statement, the embassy said, “Based on initial investigations, the embassy wishes to clarify that there is no suspicion of foul play and is awaiting the results of the forensic examination to determine the cause of death.“ The embassy added that a representative is in Aswan to follow the investigation.
The embassy extended its deepest condolences to the deceased's family and loved ones and stated that it is following the matter with all relevant authorities in the host country.
Brigadier General Mohammed Ali Mehdi Hadi Salmeen, known as “Socrates,“ was one of Yemen's most prominent military leaders. He was a leading figure in the “Southern“ faction and most recently served as the commander of the 2nd Support and Reinforcement Brigade.

Salafist groups and accounts affiliated with the extremist religious movement launched a widespread campaign against the Grand Mufti of Syria, Sheikh Osama al-Rifai, following his remarks about the intellectual and spiritual authority of Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara. Accounts and platforms loyal to the Salafist movement focused on sections of al-Rifai's speech where he addressed a crucial period in al-Shara's and his associates' religious and jihadist journey, highlighting the influence of Wahhabism, and particularly the extremism of some of its radical elements, including the practice of takfir exclusion.
These Salafist accounts argued that Sheikh al-Rifai, in defining Salafism and Wahhabism, generalized the entire Salafist movement in an unacceptable manner for someone in the position of Grand Mufti of Syria and head of the Supreme Fatwa Council.
Conversely, some defended his view, arguing that the circulated quotes were taken out of context from a longer speech and framed within a discussion of the intellectual transformations that Syrian Islamist groups and movements have undergone in recent years.
The controversy that erupted following the Mufti's statements highlighted long-standing intellectual and doctrinal differences between two main religious currents within the same Islamic school: Ash'arites and Sufis on one side, and Salafi currents on the other. These differences focused on issues of belief, methodology, and exclusion.
Al-Rifa'i assumed the role of Mufti of Syria and head of the Supreme Fatwa Council, which comprises spiritual figures from various doctrinal orientations.
Despite its hardline past, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, after coming to power in Damascus, did not attempt to significantly alter Syria's doctrinal landscape. Sufi sheikhs maintained their dominance in this area and held important positions, particularly in the Grand Mufti's office of the Republic. Meanwhile, attempts emerged from Wahhabi sheikhs to condemn and alter what they perceived as religious innovations, such as the celebration of the Prophet's birthday and other events valued and respected by Sufis.

Russia's Ambassador to Ottawa, Oleg Stepanov, stated that Canadian citizens regularly apply to move to Russia and live there long-term, and that dozens have already received visas. In a statement to the Novosti news agency, Stepanov said that Russian consulates regularly receive applications from Canadians wishing to move to Russia and live there for an extended period.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghhay responded to the White House spokesman's accusations against Tehran, saying that these accusations describe the same actions taken by the US. U.S. Southern Command announced Saturday that four people were killed in an attack on a boat allegedly carrying “drug terrorists“ in the Caribbean Sea. According to military sources, the boat was traveling along “established drug smuggling routes in the Caribbean.“ The Command stated on platform “X“: “Reliable intelligence indicated the boat was actively smuggling drugs. Four major AI companies are facing a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging they colluded to slow the pace of AI development. Iranian media reported that Iranian forces have taken extraordinary measures to maximize their operational readiness in light of closely and continuously monitoring enemy movements in the region. A German defense magazine, Europésche Sicherheit & Technik
, has reported that France has agreed to supply Egypt with long-range Meteor air-to-air missiles to equip its Rafale fighter jets, a development that will enhance the military's air combat capabilities. The magazine stated that it has obtained information confirming France's approval of the agreement, which will provide Cairo with an air capability currently lacking on its F-16 fighter jets. According to the report, the latest version of the F3-R standard allows for the integration of the Meteor missile, developed by the European company MBDA. Cairo currently relies heavily on MICA air-to-air missiles for its French-made fighter jets. The Meteor is classified as a long-range, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile. It features a ramjet engine providing thrust until it hits the target, an active radar seeker, and a data link that allows for in-flight updating of target information.
These features allow the fighter jet to launch the missile at a distant aerial target without visually observing it. According to the manufacturer, the missile continues to receive updated data about the target throughout its flight until it hits the target.
The German report notes that this capability fills a gap in the armament of Egypt's F-16s, as Cairo has not received approval from the US to equip its F-16s with long-range, radar-guided AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles.
As a significant development, the report notes that the US recently agreed to supply Egypt with AIM-120 missiles as part of the NASAMS ground air defense system, but not to equip the F-16s. This means that restrictions on the use of the American missile by Egyptian fighter jets remain in place.

US President Donald Trump announced his intention to create an “artificial intelligence force“ similar to the Space Force his administration established, and stated that he would appoint a high-ranking official to oversee AI affairs. In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said, “I am creating an AI force,“ adding that he would soon announce the appointment of an official he called the “AI Czar.“
Trump reiterated his view that AI is nothing more than a “hoax,“ but acknowledged some of the risks the technology poses, saying: “We will also be monitoring abuse, and we can do that very easily through our existing criminal justice system.“
Trump continued: “To this end, I am creating an AI force, just like the Space Force, which was a great success in my first term. To this end, I will soon announce the name of the AI Czar, and only people with high IQs will be able to apply for this position.“
Trump's statement comes at a time when the White House and Congress have faced increasing pressure in recent weeks to enact safety measures and regulations governing artificial intelligence.
Trump's stance was a response to warnings from tech leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amode and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, about the rapid development of AI capabilities and calls for enhanced oversight and safety measures.
Trump has previously expressed opposition to calls for stricter government regulation of AI, arguing that rigid restrictions could harm American competitiveness, particularly against China.

The Libyan Presidential Council announced preliminary findings from investigations conducted by relevant institutions into a terrorist cell that targeted vital civilian facilities in the capital Tripoli and the city of Zawiya. The Council revealed damage to fuel depots and power plants as part of a plan aimed at inflicting direct material damage to civilian infrastructure and endangering civilian lives. In a statement released on Saturday, the Council stated that various security units and the National Security Authority successfully thwarted the operations and prevented the losses and dangers targeted by the terrorist cell. The Council noted that, according to the legal assessment of the competent Libyan authorities, the nature and circumstances of the crimes constitute crimes against humanity as part of a widespread or systematic attack, and therefore fall within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. The Council also noted that, in addition to foreign elements involved in these crimes, there were also Libyans holding citizenship of states party to the Rome Statute as well as citizens of other countries.
The State of Libya, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and in coordination with the Ministry of Defence, has formally requested the Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court, pursuant to Article 12/3 of the Rome Statute, to provide technical, technological and legal support to the competent Libyan authorities, to enhance cooperation in ongoing investigations, to uncover the circumstances of crimes and to prosecute those responsible.
Libya also stated its readiness to expand the scope of cooperation with the Prosecutor General, pursuant to Article 15 of the Rome Statute, to submit relevant facts and information for the Court's consideration, particularly given the presence of foreign elements belonging to States parties to the Rome Statute.
The request from the Presidential Council comes at a time when the International Criminal Court is continuing its investigations into serious crimes related to Libya. In July 2026, the Court confirmed its jurisdiction in the case of Khalid al-Hishri, referring the case to trial after confirming 17 charges related to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
